Are you an authorized authorized dealer of Medela and Ameda Breastfeeding Products?  Are your products new? Why are your prices so reasonable?

I often get these questions!  I, Maurenne Griese, RNC, BSN, have been an authorized Medela retailer since 1998 and an authorized Hollister/Ameda retailer since 2003.  Both companies provide suggested retail prices but also allow retailers to set their prices as they choose within certain guidelines.  We offer our products within the pricing guidelines of our suppliers, Medela, Inc and Hollister, Inc.  All products are new and affordably priced.

About authorized retailers and shopping wisely

Yes, there are some companies and individuals offering Medela and Ameda products that are not authorized retailers of these products.  The big deal about being a US authorized dealer is customer support long after you purchase your breast pump.  If you have a problem with your breast pump and you did not purchase it from an authorized Medela retailer, you won't have the safety of a manufacturer's warranty when you buy from an unauthorized retailer.

To assure my customers that I am a Medela authorized retailer, I encourage my customers to check my status as a authorized Medela retailer here on Medela's website.  Type in my zip code 66502 and my name, Maurenne Griese, RNC, BSN, along with my phone number are listed.  

For Medela retailers, it is easy to check on an company that will provide you with their zip code.  I would encourage you to shop around and be sure to check if the company or individual you are shopping with is an authorized Medela retailer. 

I would also advise you to beware of companies that are not willing to provide you with a contact person or a physical address.  Have you noticed that some websites do not share that information for "security purposes"?  They tell you the name of their company but there is no real contact person listed on the site or a physical address.  Look on the site for a street address and phone number. Be wary if the seller’s only contact information is a post office box.  

A few companies want you to just e-mail their credit card info to them.  Don't do it!  This is not secure!  Perhaps you have seen TV commercials warning consumers about identity theft.  Identity theft is when someone gets access to your bank account or gets credit cards or loans in your name.  It's  is a growing problem, and you should carefully guard personal information that might allow a thief to impersonate you.

Be aware that some claims on some websites are just someone’s opinion and the consumer has no legal claim if it is not true. For example, if the seller claims: "These are the best websites for buying breast pumps," that is merely an opinion.  

One heavily visited breastfeeding website with a statement similar to this is basically a link farm of affiliates.  When you click on the links, they get paid for clicks or purchases made through those links.  The website is fraught with typos and grammatical errors and clearly not professionally written.  One internet company is supposedly run by nurses, lactation consultants and La Leche League Leaders.  However, they don't list names, credentials or what their expertise is so you have no way of verifying if they are who they truly say they are.  Why wouldn't you share that information unless you had something to hide?   

Gather information from a variety of sources to get the information you need to make an informed choice.  Please, be a wise shopper. The US Federal Trade commission has a web page with more information about shopping safely online.  

Legitimate businesses are not afraid to share their contact information. I want people to know who I am, how to contact me and how to locate me if they need help.  My contact information is at the bottom of each page of my website.  How are people supposed to visit my practice if I don't share that information?  

I am also a member of the Topeka Kansas Area Better Business Bureau and the US Better Business Bureau Online Reliability Program.    We are the only Medela and Ameda breast pump business with the Better Business Bureau's Online Reliability Seal of Approval.  You can feel safe when shopping online with our company.

Why are your prices so reasonable?

I am often asked why our prices are so good and if the products we offer are new. As a board certified and licensed health care professional, I believe in assisting as many breastfeeding families with reaching their breastfeeding goals and want to make it as affordable as possible.  

Discounted prices on breastfeeding products are one way independent lactation professionals like myself can be competitive with large corporations that have recently begun to offer quality breastfeeding products.  There was a time a few years ago when only lactation professionals like myself were offering Medela and Ameda products.  The products came with the experience and support of a licensed, certified health care professional like myself.  Now, there are both brick and mortar and internet companies with no lactation specialist on their staff selling Medela and Ameda breastfeeding products.  

As an RN in private practice, I do not have the overhead costs that a much larger corporation would have.  Unlike the sales clerk at your local department store or baby superstore, I have firsthand knowledge with every product I offer.  Department store sales of professional grade breast pumps greatly concerns me as a lactation professional because I know there are many mothers who are paying a high price for breastfeeding products that do not have a lactation specialist to assist them with their needs.  

I work face to face with breastfeeding mothers on a daily basis.  I also accept no outside funding from any company, including formula and pharmaceutical companies. 

All products are new, direct from the manufacturer

All products offered are new, never used.  As a licensed health care professional, infection control is paramount to the health and well being of the families I serve.  Breast pumps are personal medical devices and are not to be shared with other people.  I would recommend visiting this article on my site about used breast pumps.
