Breastfeeding bill signed into Kansas Law

Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius has signed a bill making breastfeeding legal everywhere in Kansas.  The new law gives mothers who nurse their infants in public some protection from harassment.

"We all want children to have the opportunity to grow up happy and healthy," said Sebelius. "By reaffirming that mothers can breastfeed anywhere they have a right to be, we can help mothers and their babies."

Breastfeeding in public isn't illegal in Kansas, and the legislation is an effort to clarify that.  It also allows the mother to be excused from jury duty until she no longer breastfeeds.

The new law will take effect within the next two weeks.
